View=flat

view=flat can be used to view comments in chronological order instead of threaded order. This is useful on posts that have a lot of comments, such as news posts.

view=flat also depends on S2 styling, which a lot of posts don't have, so adding fallback=s2 is recommended.

So, appending ?view=flat&fallback=s2 to a post URL will give you the comments in chronological order, and you can go to the last page to see the newest comments.
