URL Scheme Change

Expand: Possible discussion of what the old URL scheme was like and mentioning some see it as an erosion of paid benefits.
On January 19, 2006, the URL scheme was changed (![[info]](http://noljads.com/images/newsinfo.gif){kind=small}
news) due to browser security concerns in Mozilla Firefox. Before this change, only Paid and Permanent journals had their own subdomains.
Users with underscores at the beginning or end of their names, however, are all located on the subdomain "users" like so:
http://users.livejournal.com/_underscores_
Such users can choose to rename their account once for free if they would like their journal to have the standard http://exampleusername.livejournal.com/ URL.
