[edit] Filterset.G, EasyList and Adblock Plus
"Filterset.G is not recommended for use with Adblock Plus." Eh? It isn't? Not arguing with you; it's just that it's the first time I've heard that so why? and who says that? uw 20:18, 5 January 2007 (EST)
- Great! Thank you -- uw 14:26, 7 January 2007 (EST)
I don't know them, but I think the editor in question came from here. I think EasyList has something of an official status, because it is a subdomain of adblockplus.org, and on there they claim "In a benchmark test against Filterset.G, the EasyList (with its whitelisting strings included) processed at more than twice as fast as G's filter (WITHOUT its additional whitelisting filter) in Adblock Plus!" along with other advantages. So I think the intent is sound, perhaps we should just add those reasons? --Foxfirefey 04:26, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Hmm. Honestly, I don't know which one is better and I don't want to imply that I prefer one over the other because I don't - I actually use EasyList now - but I'm bothered that the article now says "#Using_Filterset.G (Adblock only)" because it's not true so I'm going to edit it. Moreover I don't like that it says "Filterset.G is not recommended for use with Adblock Plus." either because "Sorry? Recommended by whom?". So I'm going to take that out. That being said I'm all for, yes, citing what EasyList says - if we do mention that this is self-pimpage and nothing official. For me, the problem is that it now sounds as if we're favoring one list over the other and that's not the point of the article. uw 10:01, 6 January 2007 (EST)
If we ever need inspiration I like what is said here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adblock_plus#Filter_subscriptions -- uw 13:13, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Who is for switching EeasyList and Filterset.G around? *raises hand* -- uw 14:35, 7 January 2007 (EST)
[edit] Blacklisting
I quote: "(If you are already using a filter subscription, you need only highlight the lines from hbstats.livejournal.com/* downward.) " XPM, are EL and FG blocking *.yieldmanager.com/* and *.googlesyndication.com/* too? If that's so, their respective sections need to be edited to (the 'Note's). -- uw 14:47, 7 January 2007 (EST)
- Any list that blocks */ad.* should block /ad.yieldmanager.com, both FSG and EL block googlesyndicaton (EL with the filter
http://pagead2.).--XPM 16:36, 7 January 2007 (EST)- Okay, then. Thanks for the edit. :) -- uw 17:09, 7 January 2007 (EST)
[edit] Filters
Rather than have the users add the filters manually, would it not be simpler to host them all as a single filter subscription? --XPM 14:08, 7 January 2007 (EST)
