A Shared Journal is a journal that was created after the invention of Personal Accounts but before the invention of Community Accounts. A Shared Account is exactly the same as a Personal Account except that multiple people can post to it, just like a community and the Shared Account cannot post to itself. It is impossible to create new Shared Accounts on LiveJournal.
In January 2008, all shared journals were converted to closed communities and shared journals are no longer part of the LiveJournal system.
