Nudge

On January 17, 2006, the Nudge feature was announced (news). When the feature was first introduced, the opt out was not available yet, but you can use the disable_nudge Console Commands now to prevent people from nudging you.

If a mutual friend has not posted for over a week, you can nudge them. Nudging a user will send them an email to remind them to post an entry titled "Your friend has sent you a LiveJournal nudge" with the text:

Hey [insert their username here],

Your mutual friend [insert nudging friend's username here] has noticed 
that you last updated your journal on LiveJournal 7 weeks ago!  Be a 
friend and go post, at http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml
