Before December 12, 2003, in order to create an account on LiveJournal, you needed an invite code to get into the Account Creation interface.
To obtain an invite code, you needed to get one from an existing user or create a paid account.
The following were ways to obtain additional invite codes:
- Have your account for a week
- Trade in support points
