A Custom Friend Group is a subset of your Friends List that can be used for allowing only some Friends the ability to read a specific entry or for making a subset of your Friends List for reading from your Friends Page.
Custom Friend Groups can also be used for defining a set of Friends who are able to:
- Set Tags on your entries
- Transcribe Voice Posts
If you are logged in, you can edit your Custom Friends Groups here. Custom Friend Groups can be either public or private. If a Custom Friend Group is public, other people will be able to view your friends page using that group. If it is private, other people trying to view that group will get a "Denied" error message telling them "Sorry, the friend group you are trying to access does not exist or is not public."
Note that the name of a Custom Friend Group might not necessarily be entirely private no matter what the setting--if you go to a link while viewing that Custom Friend Group or load a remote image, it will show up in the referral logs of the other server.

These are the accounts that will appear on your Friends Page. If you visit /friends/?filter=0 you will be able to see entries from all of your friended accounts.

These are the accounts that will appear in your FOAF File.
[edit] Mobile View
These are the accounts that will appear on the Friends Page of LiveJournal Mobile.
