CookieSafe Lite is a Mozilla extension that lets you allow cookies only from certain sites.

This extension is desirable for anyone who doesn't want advertising tracking sites to be able to set cookies, but doesn't want to have to explicitly deny each request as it comes up. This is much more convenient than having FireFox ask for permission for each and every cookie, since the cookies you care about allowing are a small subset of all the cookies sites try to set.

A good companion for CookieSafe Lite is NoScript, which helps you choose which sites are allowed to run JavaScript.

[edit] Using CookieSafe Lite

It is recommended that you block all cookies by default. In Mozilla Firefox, go to Tools→Options→Privacy→Cookies and uncheck the 'Accept cookies from sites' box. Once you've done that, you will realize that few sites require cookies to be allowed to display or function properly. You will have to allow cookies mainly when you try to log in. When this is the case, CookieSafe Lite will enable you to choose what you want to do with the cookie:

• Allow domain - the cookie from the domain is allowed permanently and will never be blocked.
• Block domain permanently - the cookie from the domain will always be blocked.
• Allow domain for session - the cookie from the domain will be allowed for the session; this rule will be remembered; you will not have to allow the cookie every time you go to this website.
• Allow domain temporarily - the cookie from the domain will be allowed for the session; this rule will not be remembered; you will have to allow the cookie every time you go to this website.

If a website uses a cookie from a third party site or a subdomain, a new menu will appears asking you what you want to do with the cookie from that third party site or subdomain.

To be able to log into LiveJournal, allow the domain livejournal.com. If you want to stay permanently logged into LiveJournal (not recommended if you use a public computer, work computer, shared computer or private computer with no password), allow livejournal.com permanently and check the 'Remember Me' box when you log in.
