Community Account
From No LJ Ads Wiki
A Community Account represents a group of users on LiveJournal. Community accounts are denoted with the icon
.
A person who administrates a community is called a maintainer of this community. A community can have one or several maintainers.
Once upon a time, communities were similar to personal accounts: communities had passwords and you could therefore log in as a community. Nowadays, maintainers log in using their personal account and can select which account they want to work as: their personal account or one of their community accounts.
Maintainers can select which type of community they want to have at Community Settings:
- a closed community - nobody can join the community. Maintainers can invite users to join.
- a moderated community - requests to join are sent to maintainers for approval.
- an open community -anybody can join without getting approved.
Maintainers can select who can post at Community Settings:
- non-members can post or only members can post.
- in the case where only members can post, all members can post or only select members can post.
Maintainers can select whether entries are moderated or not in Community Settings. When entries are moderated, they do not get posted immediately to the community. They have to be approved by moderators. Moderators are appointed by maintainers via the Members page. Maintainers can also appoint themselves moderators if they want to have both roles.
