Avoid third party tracking
From No LJ Ads Wiki
On LiveJournal, Sponsored Communities are allowed to use third party tracking services like Google Analytics. (See Sponsored Communities and Third Party Tracking.)
[edit] Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox users who want to avoid third party tracking in sponsored communities should install these extensions:
- NoScript to prevent the JavaScript from running
- CustomizeGoogle to block the cookies set by Google Analytics (which are first party cookies and cannot be easily blocked by other means).
- Adblock Plus with the EasyPrivacy subscription, to block known tracking services.
- TACO (targeted advertising cookie opt-out) to send opt-out cookies to well known targeted advertising networks. This second line of defence comes into play on pages where you disabled NoScript and EasyPrivacy.
Users who want to also kill web bugs can also go to the preferences' content section and select "from the originating site only" under "Load Images". This will make all images from third party sites not load unless they are on the Allow list that can be accessed through the "Exceptions" button. The user can then give permission for certain sites to load images, such as photobucket.com or flickr.com. RequestPolicy provides improved support for blocking third party requests.
